The trip in brief

After having seen Machu Picchu and explored the grand sites of the Inca Realm, experiencing Paucartambo is not given to everyone. To be swept up in the throng of masked and costumed religious brotherhoods who gather each year in the small town of Paucartambo to celebrate the feast of the Virgin of Carmen is an experience from which one does not emerge unscathed. Especially if one then follows the sun worshippers who gather at the Andean promontory of Tres Cruces for the sunrise over the Amazonian immensity, and then descends the Madre de Dios river by dugout canoe, discovering the great forest through exceptional stages.
