Our story & purpose

Beyond the Journey

“Travel deeper. Return different.”

At TERRALBA, we design journeys for you that go deeper than discovery.

We lead travellers into extraordinary landscapes, living cultures and remote territories where nature still sets the rhythm and encounters still carry meaning. Each journey is carefully designed to open a space for connection — with a place, with the people who belong to it, and ultimately with oneself.

Our approach rests on specific choices: direct payments, guide-set rates, low-volume alternatives and long-term field relationships.

Travel deeper. Return different.

Our values

What guides every route we draw

Direct payment

Direct payment

Rates agreed directly with communities and payments made without an unnecessary intermediary.

Fair professional rates

Fair professional rates

Independent local guides set their rates; TERRALBA pays the amounts requested without negotiating them down.

Low volume

Low volume

We favour Palcoyo and Pallay Poncho and do not operate Vinicunca, Taquile or the mass-tourism Uros islands just outside Puno. On the lake, we visit a more remote Uros island where families actually live, and which welcomes only our travellers and Titilaka's guests.

Conservation

Conservation

Where they suit your travel plans, we work with suppliers whose activity includes conservation, including Rainforest Expeditions and Inkaterra.

In 2012, as part of the international multidisciplinary team behind the Machu Picchu Master Plan, members of our team contributed to the Tourism and Recreational Use Plan for the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary. In 2020, they were commissioned to evaluate the implementation of the 2015–2019 Master Plan, including conservation recommendations. Our team also works regularly with Peruvian tourism institutions to develop sustainable — and even regenerative — tourism in Peru.

Sustainability & Regeneration

Our work in Peru goes beyond travel: conservation planning, community tourism funding and advisory mandates with public institutions.

MINCETUR — Turismo Emprende / Amantaní Island, Lake Titicaca
Members of our team supported a family they have worked with for more than ten years in securing non-reimbursable funding through the Turismo Emprende programme. They also contributed to the study and presentation of a business plan helping tourism-hosting families on Amantaní Island calculate costs and set fair rates, together with the municipality and local organisations.
Sustainable and regenerative tourism advisory
Advisory work for regional and national tourism authorities across different regions of Peru.
