When is the best time to travel to Peru?

Practical advice—6 novembre 2025—4 min read

Dry season, shoulder seasons, Amazon, coast: the best time to travel to Peru according to your desires. Advice from Terralba, a agency since 2024.

No single month suits all regions of Peru equally. The country stretches from the ocean to the forest, passing through the high plateaus, and each side follows its own rhythm. Here are the benchmarks that guide our itineraries.

Three geographies, three climates

  • The Costa — From Tumbes to Tacna, along the Pacific. Arid climate, mild temperatures, mists (garúa) over Lima from April to November, bright summer from December to March.
  • The Sierra — The Andean heart: Cusco, Arequipa, Huaraz, Lake Titicaca. Dry season from May to October, vibrant days, cold nights. Green season from November to April, brief showers, lush nature.
  • The Selva — The Peruvian Amazon. Heat and humidity all year round, more pronounced rains from November to April, lower water levels from June to October.

Region by region

Sierra — Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, treks

From May to October, the dry season offers clear skies, stable trails, and unobstructed panoramas. The two ends — May-June and September-October — combine the best conditions with more moderate crowds. The green season (November to April) dresses the landscapes in deep green, but can veil the peaks.

Selva — Amazon

From June to October, showers become less frequent, rivers recede, and wildlife concentrates around water sources. This is a favorable period for observation and forest walks. The rainy season, however, facilitates navigation in the secondary channels.

Costa — Lima, Paracas, Nazca

From December to April, the Limeño sky clears and the coastline regains its light: ideal for exploring colonial balconies, coastal archaeological sites, and the punta of Paracas. The austral winter maintains mild temperatures, but the garúa can be persistent.

Our preferred window

For an itinerary combining the Andes and the Amazon, May, June, September, and October remain the most balanced periods: clear light at altitude, stable conditions in the forest, and crowds below the summer peak. A period all the more precious as it opens the way to the confidential variations we craft bespoke.
